These aren't easy decisions. He spends a lot of time on them.

Governor Perry has been the most open book in terms of a long-standing history of releasing his complete tax returns for years so the public is able to totally examine his sources of income.

I don't think the e-mails quite capture the intensity of those moments. In addition to e-mail traffic, there were phone calls going on. It was kind of multitasking to the nth degree. Tensions were high. Everybody knew what was at stake.

Charter schools, as a matter of law, have always been exempted from the accountability system, and the 65 percent requirement is part of the financial accountability system. We don't know that there is an administrative way around it, but certainly if there is a way that Gov. Perry administratively can achieve that, he certainly will do that.

His assumption that anyone with money could use the room is incorrect. It was made available because they (lawmakers) were in session. He wanted to meet with a number of legislators who, frankly, were probably on the floor at that time.

I have real concern developing about lawlessness breaking out in Texas as a result of our generosity. We need to make certain we do not exceed our ability to provide necessities for those we are agreeing to take. What's the plan for those who see the Astrodome as their rightful home for the next 90 days? What's the plan for handling increase in prison/jail population?

Instead of worrying about who gets credit for our recent successes, maybe these Washington Democrats should be spending more time preventing the federal government from shortchanging us by $2 billion on hurricane relief.

If paying $500,000 to a firm ... gets Texas $50 million in aid in one bill, that's a good return on our money.

The intent certainly is that people whose taxes are frozen would see the same level of property tax deductions.

Once again, we're saying here are these people in your community, and here's their criminal history. Beyond that, we have no jurisdiction to place them on supervision in Texas.
